Personal Assistant /Driver –  Tarbolton – South Ayrshire

Personal Assistant – Tuesdays, 6pm until 11pm – 5 hours minimum plus Casual as and when required.

Rate of Pay

£12.00 per hr

Role

Main role will be to accompany the man to Powerchair Football training once a week and also to support him to attend competitions on approximately 8 Sundays each season.

Applicants will be expected to be flexible regarding hours of work and be able to work extra hours if required.

He is looking to recruit a Personal Assistant to provide a mixture of Personal care and Social support to a 44 year old man who lives in his own home .  Applicants must have a genuine passion for providing excellent care and support and can demonstrate professionalism and commitment. He is also looking for someone that is willing to go the extra mile and help him lead an independent life.

It is important to recognise that the care and support you will assist with will involve going to the family home, therefore confidentiality and respect for him and his partner’s privacy and daily routine is of the upmost importance.

He also particularly enjoys going to concerts, socialising with friends and eating out.

Applicants must have a sense of humour and enjoy a good chat and a bit of ‘banter’.

Experience/qualifications required

Looking for a competent and experienced driver with a full clean driving licence. Needs to be confident in driving his wheelchair accessible vehicle. Must be comfortable driving outwith Ayrshire.

Experience in care sector is essential. It would be desirable, but not essential that they have experience of supporting adults with physical disabilities.

Having a current Moving & Assisting Certificate is desirable but not essential as access to training course is provided.

 

Duties and tasks to be undertaken:

  • Transfers using hoist from electric day powerchair to powerchair football chair, therefore must have moving and handling experience
  • Occasionally support will be required to support him to attend appointments, meet friends, so he can get the most out of all social life both inside and outside the house.
  • There will be occasions where support with personal care requirements will be needed. For example: support with washing/showering, dressing, catheter care, stoma care, medication, ensuring appropriate levels of hygiene, assisting with meal preparation etc.
  • Ideally be able to assist with respite, which may include a paid holiday either in the UK or abroad.
  • Required to drive his mobility car, applicants must be a driver aged 25 or over (for insurance purposes) with a full clean driver’s licence.
  • Must be physically fit, this can be a physically demanding job

You will be employed by the personal employer, who will be assisted to administer payroll and undertake the necessary employment support responsibilities by a relevant support organisation.

There is a 6 month probationary period attached to the post, of which the employer reserves the right to extend for a maximum of a further 6 months if required.

Successful applicant will have to undergo a new or update of the PVG disclosure scheme and supply 2 up to date reference contacts prior to appointment

5.6 weeks paid Annual leave pro rata for contracted staff

Attend any training courses that are arranged and that you need to undertake in order to do your job safely. Training will be paid for by the employer.
