Job Title: Support Worker/Driver – Social and Leisure Support for Young Adult with High-Functioning Nuro Diversity (Autism)
Location: Kilwinning
Hours: 7 hours per week
Wage rate: £13.15 per hour plus 5.6 weeks annual leave
Schedule: Evenings and weekends (flexible, to be agreed upon)

Job Purpose:
To provide social and leisure support to a young adult with high-functioning autism (ASD), helping to identify and engage in activities that are enjoyable, inclusive, and aligned with his preferences. The role will focus on building confidence, encouraging participation in meaningful activities, and supporting social interactions in a calm and understanding manner.
Key Responsibilities:
Social and Leisure Support:
Work with the young person to identify and resource quieter, enjoyable activities, ensuring a sensory-friendly environment.
Support participation in activities like bowling, pool, and other suitable leisure pursuits.
Facilitate involvement in community-based activities that match his interests and strengths.
Promote positive experiences with an emphasis on building confidence and social engagement.
Supporting Interests and Skills:
Encourage and incorporate his keen interest in computer games into activities where appropriate.
Recognise and utilise his strong computer and administrative skills, identifying opportunities for engagement and development in these areas.
Creating a Supportive Environment:
Be mindful of sensory sensitivities (e.g., avoiding noisy environments).
Promote independence at his own pace while providing support and encouragement.
Social Connections:
Foster meaningful social interactions and relationships in a respectful and supportive way.
Encourage community inclusion through participation in quieter, accessible activities.
Key Skills and Attributes:
Ability to focus on the persons strengths and talents
Previous experience working with individuals with ASD is essential.
Understanding and awareness of autism-related sensory and communication needs.
Ability to identify, organise, and resource appropriate social and leisure activities.
Patient, empathetic, and adaptable to individual preferences and needs.
Confident in promoting independence while providing gentle support.
Professional, reliable, and resourceful, with excellent communication skills.
Additional Considerations:

Willingness to pursue ongoing learning about autism.
Ability to use clear, concise communication and be mindful of non-verbal cues.
Sensitivity to environments and activities that promote comfort and well-being.
